Six Sigma

This is a relatively new term for some old Quality & improvement Tools, Bill Smith introduced this program into Motorola in 1991, Its base on the PDSA / PDCA cycle & Uses Design Measure Analyse Improve Control DMAIC. its focus is on understanding and controlling the variables within any process.

Define

We can take you through defining & scoping the issue, describing the problem via a problem statement using Voice of the customer VOC,& CTQ's Draft the charter identify the sponsor, create stakeholder maps high level process flows or SIPOC's, KANO,SWOT then RACI and communication strategy, identify resource requirements and budget and benefits., Once every one is in agreement and Charter signed we will build a roll out plan using MSP or Similar.

Measure - The Critical Phase

Create detailed Value Stream Map including the 10 key elements  to identify waste inefficiencies or bottlenecks flow stoppers.this will highlight what data is required and were / how to collect it - this can be system driven or manual collection collection plan, Calculate the sample size using relevant statistical tables, Use MSA Measurement System Analysis spaghetti diagrams, Process Capability studies.   .

Analise

Get into the details of everything within the scope understand the As-Is looking at VA/NVA , calculate the Cp Cpk create histograms / Pareto's used RCPS Root Cause Problem Solving tools such as 5 Whys Scatter plots, Measle chart Ishikawa diagrams Hypothesis T-Test Chi-Squared Test, ANOVA Analysis of Variance, Start to scope the Taguchi DOE, Develope the FMEA, Deep dive into work breakdown & methods used

Improve

Create the future state VSM and the TOM Target Operating Model, the To-Be state. Use cost benefit analysis to create new ways of working using AI / IT standard work, Develop an improvement plan / 90 Day TIP, run options through a boston matrix JDI's, Projects, Improvement activities, Define CTQ metrics both leading and lagging set targets aligned to the Policy deployment. use SMART methods.

Control

Roll out Audit system, SPC, statistical Process Control, Update the FMEA's and control plans, deploy the standard work supported by a training program linked to a skills matrix. Recheck the MSA and Cp Cpk's. Embed RCPS A3 / 8D / 3C's, develop cascade of Metrics and  Targets  with reaction limits and feedback loops

Design for 6 Sigma

This is where you can really add value to your product and process, From the initial concept using the tools to build quality and ease into everything you do following the discovery - design & develop - test & Launch

What Method do i need   Lean or Six Sigma

If you experiencing a specific issue relating to process variance then six sigma may be what's required, However the vast majority of organisations would benefit from Lean basics delivered by a professional team as it engages the whole business and can be the broad brush approach that hits were its needed very quickly.
I usually ask my clients if they would trust a surgeon who has done a few days of online training to then go on to operate on their loved ones, our mentors are like highly skilled surgeons they have been in your shoes and delivered results time & time again.
  • Lean - 5 Lean Principles

1, Value - Define what the customer is willing to pay for      2, Value Stream - The steps that deliver the value              3, Flow - Organise the streams to create continuous flow  4, Pull - Responsive to downstream demand                        5, Perfection - Relentless pursuit using continuous improvement

True Lean or TPS is a way of optimising the people, resources, effort, and energy of your organization toward creating value for the customer. It is based on two guiding tenets, continuous improvement and respect for people.

  • Six Sigma - DMAIC

    Define - Measure - Analyse - Improve - Control

True Six Sigma is  a set of methodologies and tools used to improve business processes by reducing defects and errors, minimizing variation, and increasing quality and efficiency. The goal of Six Sigma is to achieve a level of quality that is nearly perfect, with only 3.4 defects per million opportunities
